is it omething we should be doing? i feel like i have to reformulate the question to reflect what i feel is the reality of what i think the question is about. really though, it's moot.
it's my belief that we are hardwired to do so. history is littered with examples of us doing so. sometimes to our detriment, as in the type of person, place or doctrine is not the appropriate recipient of the devotion. to put it succinctly, i will direct your attention to cults and their effects upon humans.
worship is going to always be subjective because we are endowed with free will. to be enthralled or not. to be able to discern whether or not it's it serves us to invest in a thing or not. factors of influence are always at play. our histories, our infirmities, body and soul, do you come into our decision making. to have an addictive personality or other trait that color our decision-making faculties. to have the presence of mind to see the folly of following a jim jones and the ill-fated people's church or a cult of personality that formed slightly differently like nexium and keith rainier or heaven's gave and marshal applewhite. some prove to be deadly. all had leaders that pretensed to potential members, always offering some form of answers for seekers looking to self improve in some way. the lives of individuals and in some cases families. in none of the aforementioned did they do any of what was promised. nothing they were told in the beginning came to fruition. it always turned out to be a ploy. all about the desires of the guru, leader, or messiah. self-service and in particular, worship from a flock gathered, no, lured to these manipulative life forms. whose only true motivation is to create followers willing to bend to their will and perform in ways that meet their desires.
there always seems to be this level of addictive behavior in these situations. seekers' behavior and tolerance for abuse seems to attract those of us who think it's a good idea to join a cult.
defining worship and to what, is something only the individual can determine. there are so many determining factors that formulate our personalities. i feel a sense of relief that i'm not drawn to being in a cult. neither do they seem interested in me, whew!
In the United States we have our courtships with colts, as I mentioned. The really,, how to call it? The ones that turn out the violent and deadly usually unfortunately tend to exterminate themselves. Those are always shocking things to witness and learn from. Sometimes the violent endings are part of the involvement of law enforcement which never seems to end well in those situations.
There's one called who is reach over time has spread globally much to the detriment of its membership and their families, and that's scientology. It's the doctrinal procedures keep it monetarily flush as it does it's highly effective conditioning helps keep the details of how it operates highly opaque. Due to the ever whitening leaks that have escaped when people left the church. That church has a propensity to have like a mafia type organization out of a rabid sense of self-preservation. The tactic Scientology deploys to maintain the secrecy it seeks often seem to be illegal and that is another something off about it. That and whatever they worked out with IRS and federal law enforcement, but the so-called churches activities have stayed opaque and occulted from scrutiny. That's never a good thing.
even when their extreme retaliation is captured on camera somehow the calls to law enforsement seem to indicate some sort of toleration for it. leaving already traumatized excommunicants feeling abandoned and unsafe stiil by not doing much but leaving the caller feeling like a nuisance. not my experience but one documented in numerous documentaries.
The testimonials of former members have been telling compelling stories about their experiences and it's weakened the facade. This has to be good because the hiding whatever they are looks and sounds sinister. Not that I am any arbiter but I would like to suggest that if we are going to worship anything I would spend that energy on things like nature there's so much of it that is awesome and is filled with amazing and unfoundable baby. Nothing isn't looking to use or control us, only to surprise and Delight. Even violence in nature is something to respectfully behold and learn from as it has none of the human motivation when it occurs. Whether it's animals on the hunt or in defense, or volcanic eruption, hurricane come earthquake, whatever, that is natural power and Beauty worthy of worship.
Worship of Christ is never what Jesus intended. We are meant to follow in his example living Christ consciousness. I've been looking for the way I can show my appreciation of the great creator. I haven't wanted to share the quotes I see on my timelines on my social platforms. They have too much of the author which I feel has colored everything in the Bible and Christianity to the point it distracts me from the message.
We are meant to find our own way with each other's assistance but with our own capability to choose what to follow or pick up and make part of our existence. Trooping along in line how much homogeneously I think is expressly not a thing we're meant to do. Like joining a cult.
However, this is just imo, I'm not insisting I'm right or no better than anyone. I am offering up opinion for your consideration.
